Thomas "Chris" Christopher Fitzsimmons

Thomas Christopher “Chris” Fitzsimmons, 83, passed away early Tuesday Morning, September 15, 2026, at Highland Hospital, in Rochester, NY.

Born in Alexandria Bay, NY, to Claude and Carolyn (Ivy) Fitzsimmons, Chris was married to Monica DeLany of Syracuse, NY, for 57 years. He is predeceased by his wife, his parents and his brother Peter (Barbara). He is survived by his children, Suzanne Fitzsimmons, Matthew (Anna) Fitzsimmons, and Robert Fitzsimmons; his three grandchildren, Alexander, Nora, and Kasey; and his brother, Frederick (Ann) Fitzsimmons, and nieces and nephews.

Thomas C. "Chris" Fitzsimmons concluded a distinguished 32-year career in 1998, retiring as the President of Kodak's Commercial and Government Systems Business Unit and Vice President of Eastman Kodak Company. A pioneer in spaceborne optical systems, Chris focused on the development of lightweight technologies, revolutionizing national reconnaissance capabilities. After retiring from Kodak, Chris continued to serve as a respected consultant for the government and major aerospace firms. He was also a dedicated adjunct professor, who taught calculus and engineering courses for over 20 years at Rochester Institute of Technology and Sante Fe College.

His contributions earned him the NRO Distinguished Service Award in 1998 and the prestigious Pioneer of National Reconnaissance Award in 2015, an honor rarely bestowed upon civilians and the agency's highest honor recognizing individuals whose innovative contributions have had a lasting and transformative impact on the nation's overhead reconnaissance capabilities.

Chris graduated from Alexandria Central High School and received his Engineering BS and MS from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi.

A Catholic mass will be held Saturday, October 3rd,11 am, at St. Cyril’s Church, Alexandria Bay, NY. Burial will follow at Barnes Settlement Cemetery.
