Susan J. Hudon

Susan J. Hudon, 91, passed away peacefully Friday evening, June 27, 2025, at River Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Born on December 14, 1933, in Watertown, NY, Sue was the daughter of Harold and Ruth (Pike) Edick. She graduated from Alexandria Central High School in 1952 and from Cazenovia Junior College in 1954. A lifelong resident of Alexandria Bay, Sue deeply loved her community and the River, which was always close to her heart.

She was known by many names—Mrs. Hudon, Mamma Sue, Aunt Sue, Grammie, Granny, and Bill—but her favorite was simply “Mom.” An only child who never liked quiet or solitude, Sue built a warm and bustling home filled with family, friends, laughter, and love. She raised her children with care and pride, and they were her greatest joy. Her home was always open, and all were welcome at her table.

Well known for her incredible pies and chocolate chip cookies, Sue’s secret ingredient was love, something she also stitched into every one of the hundreds of quilts and blankets she lovingly made over the years.

While at Cazenovia College, she was a proud member of the Gun Club and earned the nickname "Bullet" for her sharp shooting. Sue began working at Alexandria Central School only after her youngest son, Bruce, started school, dedicating 25 years to the district. She was named Sports Fan of the Year in 2019 and volunteered generously with the local thrift store, youth hockey, figure skating, and Girl Scouts.

Sue met the love of her life, Glenn D. Hudon, at Adventure Town. They were married on September 21, 1956, in Alexandria Bay. Glenn passed away on September 17, 2016, just four days before their 60th wedding anniversary.

She is survived by her five beloved children: Teri (John) Bruno of Camillus; Julie (Mike) Chavoustie of Alexandria Bay; Renee (Paul) Heath of Redwood; Brian of Alexandria Bay; and Bruce (Kim) of Watertown;. She also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, her faithful dachshund Copper, and Pretty Kitty.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 13th, from 3–7 p.m. at the Hudon Ranch on Route 12 in Alexandria Bay.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sue’s name to the Wellesley Island Wildlife Rehabilitation, www.wellesleyisland.net, or a charity of your choice.
