Patricia "Pat" Welsh

May 7, 1942 — Aug 8, 2026

Alexandria Bay, NY

Patricia (Pat) Welsh went to her eternal resting place on August 8, 2026 after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family as she passed peacefully in her sleep.

Pat was born on May 17, 1942 the daughter of René and Elizabeth Hart and grew up in a house her father built with his own hands. She graduated from Massena Central School and went on to attend St. Rose College in Albany before transferring to Potsdam state where she earned a degree in elementary education. Pat taught at Alexandria Central for many years before retiring in 2001.

Pat married James (Itcher) Welsh on April 15, 1967 at Sacred Heart Church in Massena. They celebrated their 59th year as husband and wife this past April. Together they enjoyed many happy memories of watching the world go by on The River and Walton St. from their front porch.

She was a member of the St. Cyril’s Alter and Rosary Society and a member of the choir for many years. Pat was also a member of the Town of Alexandria Senior Citizens and enjoyed attending the monthly dinners over the years. She also enjoyed the many lunches she attended with all her other retired teacher friends, especially those on what would have been the first day back to work.

One of Pat’s favorite things to do was to travel. She really enjoyed the many bus trips set up by local people or organizations that traveled all over the country. She and Itcher took a number of cruises and one of her highlights was visiting the Vatican in Rome where she was able to witness the Pope.

Pat was preceded by her maternal and paternal grandparents, parents, an infant son Chistopher Theodore, and a daughter-in-law Linda Shambo Welsh. She is survived by her husband, son Kevin (Jaycee) Welsh, LaFargeville, daughter Liane (Scott) Knapp and grandson Riley Knapp of Rochester, her brother Gerald (Lynn) Hart, Surfside Beach, SC and step granddaughter Melanie Shambo (Evans Mills).

Calling hours will be from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Costello Funeral home on Wednesday, August 12th. A funeral mass will be held Thursday August 13th at 10:00 am at St. Cyril’s Church with a family burial immediately afterwards .
