M. Michael Quencer

June 17, 2018 Alexandria Bay, NY M. Michael “Mike” Quencer, 83, passed away at his home. He was born May 13, 1935, in Town of Lyme, NY, son of Martin and Helen Wilbur Quencer. He graduated from Lyme Central School in 1953, and attended Oswego State College. He served in the US Army from 1957 until 1960.  He married Mary E. Snyder on October 21, 1961 at the First Baptist Church in Sandy Creek, NY. Mike worked as a grant administrator for many years for the NYS Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. After retirement, he also worked part time for GK Accounting, Alexandria Bay. He was a member of the Alexandria Bay Masonic Lodge 297, served on the board of directors and was treasurer for the Macsherry Library, was past president and a founding member of the Alexandria Bay Figure Skating Club, was a former director of the Alexandria Bay Chamber of Commerce, and was a former member of Alexandria Bay Rotary. Besides his wife Mary, he is survived by his son Brett and his wife, Lisa, Midland MI, his daughter Heather and her husband Mark Nemier, Ashburn, VA, two brothers, Donald (Suzanne) Quencer, Watertown, NY and Martin (Carol) Quencer, Chaumont, NY, two sisters, Lois (Richard) Taylor, Frederick, MD and Virginia (William) Fellows, Sanibel, FL,  and four grandchildren. Calling hours will be Wednesday June 20 th , from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay. A memorial service will be Thursday June 21 st at 11 am at the Alexandria Bay United Methodist Church, with Pastor Freddie Webb officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Barnes Settlement Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Alexandria Bay United Methodist Church, 4 Rock St, Alexandria Bay, NY 13607, the Macsherry Library, 112 Walton St, Alexandria Bay, NY 13607, or Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham Street, Watertown, NY 13601.
