Joan C. Patience, 87, Alexandria Bay, passed away in her daughter Elizabeth’s care in Syracuse on December 17th.
Joan was born in Fineview, NY, on June 13, 1938, the daughter of James and Mable Robbins Waterson. She was educated in local schools and later received her G.E.D. at the age of 52 and went on to earn her associate’s degree from Fulton Community College.
Joan married Edwin “Noble” Patience on August 18th,1955 at the Alexandria Bay Methodist Church, with Rev. Walter Dobbie officiating. Mr. Patience passed away on October 9th, 2000.
She worked for many years for Coleco Industries in Gloversville, NY, where she also served as union shop steward, protecting workers and changing the way management dealt with them. She moved back to Alexandria Bay following her husband’s death and worked in restaurants until her retirement.
Joan is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Patience, Syracuse, NY, and Irene Patience, Sioux Falls, SD; her sons Matthew (Joan) Patience, New Mexico, and Mark Patience, Galway, NY; and five grandchildren. Besides her husband, a son Luke Patience predeceased her. Eight sisters and one brother also predeceased her.
Calling hours, funeral services, and burial in Barnes Settlement Cemetery, will be announced in the spring of 2026.
