James R. Hagan, 88, passed away Monday afternoon, September 29th in Potsdam, NY.
He was born June 21, 1937, in Theresa, NY, son of James H. and Hazel L. House Hagan. He graduated from Alexandria Central High School and served as a machinist on a destroyer tender for the US Navy, from 1956-1958.
A marriage to Joyce E. Sutter ended in divorce.
Jim worked as a delivery man for Wonder Bread, as a Jefferson County Sherrif’s deputy, as a construction manager for Agway, Syracuse, as a policeman for the Village of Alexandria Bay, retiring as police chief, and in retirement, for Bonnie Castle Yacht Basin.
He was a member of the Alexandria Bay Masonic Lodge and the Alexandria Bay American Legion.
He is survived by a son, James L. (Amber) Hagan, Plessis, a daughter, Deborah Hagan, Theresa, 4 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren, and a special companion, Janice Riordan. He was predeceased by a sister Jean Gill, a grandson, Brandon Hagan, and a son in law, Steve Homoki.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 2nd, from 4-7pm at the Costello Funeral Home. A masonic service will be held at 7pm.
The funeral will be Friday, October 3rd, at 11 am, at the Reformed Church of the Thousand Isles, with Pastor Jeff McIlrath, officiating. A reception will follow church services, in the church hall.
Burial in Plessis Brookside Cemetery will be private.
