Frederic I. Slate

Fredric I. “Fred” Slate, 80, passed away early Sunday morning, July 26th, at River Hospital, where he had been admitted on Saturday.

Fred was born May 22, 1946, in Irwin, TN, son of John F. and Montessum Gouge Slate.

He graduated from Alexandria Central High School in 1964.

Fred married Sharon Franklin on October 11, 1980, in Syracuse, NY.

He worked for many years for MONY, based in Syracuse, NY, retiring as director of security for the company.

After moving back to Alexandria Bay, Fred and Sharon founded Village Video, which they owned and operated from 1986-2012.

He was an avid golfer and former member of the Alexandria Bay Men’s Golf League, a member of the Dick Bertrand Tuesday Morning Golf League, and the Alexandria Bay American Legion, Post 904.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, a niece, Gabrielle (Charles) Livingston, Dexter, NY, a nephew, John F. Slate (Allyson Thomas), Alexandria Bay, and a sister-in-law, Lisa Slate, Alexandria Bay. He was predeceased by two brothers, Mark and John Slate.

There will be no services.
