On September 1, 2023 Donald Gerard Price, loving Partner, Father, and Grandfather passed away in his Wellesley Island home, at the age of 76, of terminal illness.
He is survived by his two children Mitchell and Reed Price; and his granddaughter, River Price. He is predeceased by his partner, Clara de Leonardis.
Donald was born on May 26, 1947 in Utica, New York to Donald and Marion Bryden Price. He graduated from Denver University in 1969 and then moved to the Thousand Islands the same year. He opened St Lawrence Restoration in 1973 in Clayton, NY which he owned and operated for the next 50 years. In 1986 he married Anna Hill Price with whom he raised their two sons.
Don had a passion for wooden boats and the St Lawrence River. He was a founding member of both Save the River and The Antique Boat Museum, and was in charge of cleanup efforts after the NEPCO oil spill in 1976. He later served on the board of the River Hospital in Alexandria Bay. He strove to preserve and steward the practice and culture of boating which is unique to the Thousand Islands. He was passionate about history and loved antiques and old ways of doing things. He self-identified as a farmer, he and his family managed a functional horse and cattle ranch in Colorado for 10 years, and could often be found outside in the seat of a tractor. A man of great energy, charisma, and style, he left an impression on almost everyone who knew him, and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community at large.
A public memorial will be held at the Thousand Islands Club on Thursday, September 7th 2023, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.
