Daniel G. Sweet, 62, passed away on July 22, 2025, while hiking on the Appalachian Trail, near Berlin, NH.

Dan was born July 11, 1963, in Johnson City, NY, son of Burtt and Marilyn Moore Sweet. He graduated from Dallas High School, in Dallas, PA, and then from Penn State Wilkes-Barre with a degree in mechanical engineering.

He married Lynne Gallagher on November 5, 1988, in Feasterville, PA.

Dan retired in 2018 from Trane Technologies, where he worked for 28 years, based in Davidson, NC. His job title upon retirement was Business Transformation Leader.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending time at the river, fishing, hunting, and in most recent years, hiking. Dan enjoyed staying active. Whether it was competing in Spartan races, hiking on various trails throughout the Northeast, or woodworking. When he passed, he was striving to complete through-hiking the entire Appalachian Trail.

Besides his wife Lynne, he is survived by his mother, Marilyn Sweet, Greene, NY, his son, Sam, Alexandria Bay, NY his daughter, Carissa Sweet (Nigel Nelson), Durham, NC, a brother, Burtt E. Sweet, II, Hammond, NY, and two sisters, Rev. Deborah Earthrowl, Port Edward, NY, and Rev. Rebekah Sweet, Greene, NY.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 30th from 12-2pm at the Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay. The celebration of life service will begin at 2pm.

Memorial donations may be made in Dan’s name to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy or the Indian River Lakes Conservancy.
