It is with a heavy heart and great sadness, that we announce the passing of Colin Patrick “Pat” Fitzsimmons, age 72 of Alexandria Bay, NY Pat was born in Alexandria Bay March 24, 1943 to Lowell and Alice Fitzsimmons. He graduated from Alexandria Bay High School in 1961 and continued on to St Michaels College in Burlington, VT. Inseparable soul mates and high school sweethearts, Pat and Mary (Kilburn) wed on September 11, 1964. Thru 51 years, Pat and Mary were an example of how a loving, supporting marriage should be. The couple spent their winters on the ocean in Emerald Isle, NC and the summers on the St. Lawrence River, with their Corgi, Jesse. Pat dedicated his career to the United States Post Office for 35 years. He was the Manager of the Watertown branch, a route analyst for the Albany Division and continued on to be Postmaster of Alexandria Bay from 1993-98, when he retired. During his college, Pat was a member of the St. Michaels College ski team, competing in the Ski Jumping in 70 meter events. When Pat returned to upstate NY, he continued to ski competitively. He is recognized as the first person to complete a front flip in New York State. During the summer months, Pat was an accomplished water skier as well, performing in water ski shows on the St. Lawrence River. What Pat is known for the most was his deep love of music and amazing ability to perform. He played guitar and sang in festivals, concerts and restaurants all over New York. Whether with a band or solo, his talents were acknowledged by many.   A member of several bands including “Stillwater”, “Honky Tonk Heart”, “Southbound” , “Quarter Moon”, and “MisFitz”, where he played with his daughter Shawn. Pat dedicated so much to music. He taught each of his children, grandchildren and others to play and sing. Among his integrity and spirit his contributions to music will live on thru generations to come. We are privileged and thankful to be a part of this wonderful man’s life. He taught us to be strong, supportive and to cherish your family. Pat was our family’s rock, our EVERYTHING. Pat was predeceased by his parents, his two brothers Eugene and James Fitzsimmons. He is survived by his wife Mary (Kilburn), daughter Shawn (Chris) DiPrinzio (Clayton, NY), son Patrick (Michele) Fitzsimmons (Clayton, NC), Sadie (Chip) Moynihan (Syracuse, NY) six grandchildren Cheyenne, Gage, Kennedy, Connor, Cole and Kassi , one sister Dolores Fitzsimmons (Dexter, NY) two brothers Michael (Gladys) (Alexandria Bay, Napes Fla, Carl (Elise) (Theresa, NY), two sister in laws Penelope (Larry) Tanzini (Clayton, NC), Florence (Trace) Young (Ellisburg, NY) numerous nieces, nephews and family members who loved him very much. Services: A Mass to celebrate Pat will be held Thursday August 20, 2015 11:00am at St. Cyril Church 17 Rock St Alexandria, NY. Arrangements are with Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay.
