Cathy Dartnell

Cathy Dartnell passed away peacefully on October 19, 2026. Born September 3, 1950, in Rochester, NY, she graduated from Greece Arcadia High School in 1968 and earned a B.S. in Mathematics from SUNY New Paltz in 1973.

Cathy dedicated her career to teaching mathematics in school districts throughout New York State, retiring from the Syracuse City School District in 2006. She continued teaching in Las Vegas until 2012 before making her home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

Wherever life took her, Sand Bay and the St. Lawrence River were always home. She treasured summers there with family and friends. An avid golfer, Cathy belonged to the Clayton and Alexandria Bay women’s golf leagues and loved boating and memorable “girls’ days out” on the river.

Cathy and her beloved husband, Thomas, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August. Her greatest joy was her family: daughters and sons-in-law, Jaime (Bradley) Hawley and Allison (Robert) Toms; grandchildren, Cooper and Margaret Hawley, Robert and Logan Toms; and her older brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald (Jane) Cooper and David (Jackie) Cooper.

She also leaves her cherished “pseudo-sisters,” Keitha Costello, Diane Santiago, Beth Docteur, and Donna Costello, as well as her dear friends Anita Revicki and Sue Riley.

Cathy was deeply grateful for the family and friends who filled her life with love, laughter, and lasting memories. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

A celebration of Cathy’s life will be held at the River in the summer of 2027, with details to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cathy’s memory to Toomey Residential and Community Services.
