Annie Jean Roberts Pharoah

Annie Jean Pharoah, 93, formerly of Kring Point, passed away on November 28, 2017 at Samaritan Keep Home where she had resided since January 2012. Annie was born on July 25, 1924, in Rome, NY, the daughter of Samuel R. and Winifred M. Ellis Davies. She was educated in Rome schools and, while living there, worked at Rome Copper and Brass, NY Telephone, and The Rome Daily Sentinel. She later worked for the NYS Parks System for the Thousand Islands Region in Alexandria Bay. She was especially proud of being the caretaker of Canoe Point State Park on Wellesley Island. Annie was an avid outdoorswoman excelling in speed skating in her earlier years. She had a life-time of memories and love for the St. Lawrence River. Annie enjoyed kayaking, ice fishing, camping, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, and waterskiing. She was a lifelong member of the Thousand Islands Skiing Islanders. She loved to waterski and was still making pyramids with the family into her 70’s. She was a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Alexandria Bay Ladies Golf League. Annie married Morris L. Roberts on April 9, 1947 in Rome, NY. They were married until his death in September 1977. She then married Leo Pharoah on June 6, 1998 and they were married until his death in February 2008. She had one daughter, Dianne Peckham, who resides in Watertown. She is also survived by her granddaughter, April Fallon, her husband Jeffrey, and their son, Jack, all of Watertown; as well as a grandson, James Ledger, of Kring Point and New York City; and her sister Mary Ellen Cretaro, San Antonio, TX. She was predeceased by her brothers Robert and Albert, and a sister Winifred. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of her family. Memorial donation may be made in Annie’s name to the Alexandria Bay Volunteer Fire Department, 110 Walton St., Alexandria Bay, NY 13607
